Description

13 Hamilton Terrace is a pair of altered terraced houses dating from the 19th century. Originally part of a group of three, one house has been replaced by Midland Bank. The buildings feature three-storey fronts with three windows each, constructed of stucco with slate roofs and rendered end wall stacks on No 13. Old photographs indicate that the two houses once matched, but No 14 has undergone significant alterations.

No 13 displays a stucco quoin pilaster on the left, paired brackets at the eaves, and stucco architraves on the upper windows. The first floor has 20th-century plate glass windows that replaced the original 12-pane sashes, while the second floor retains 6-pane sashes, with the center window being blank. The ground floor features a shop window set between tapering panelled pilasters with console brackets, although the cornice has been lost. There is a matching doorcase with a cornice around the arched doorway. The stucco detailing is likely from the mid to late 19th century and was also present on the now-demolished No 12.

No 14 originally had similar architraves, quoin pilasters, and other details, but its architraves have been simplified to raised surrounds. The ground floor left window has been replaced with a door, and the central attic window has been removed, while the flanking windows have been extended through the eaves line.
