Description
Hill Park Baptist Church is a chapel built with unpainted stucco and a slate roof. The side facing the main road is more decorative than the front, which leads to the chapel court. The building has a basement and two storeys. The front is partly hidden by the original chapel, featuring a coved open pediment and three stepped arched louvred openings in the gable that share a single sill. The two-storey facade consists of three bays with giant pilasters supporting moulded arches, which are wider in the center above a large arched window with three arched lights. The side windows are arched on the upper floor and have cambered heads below. There is a cambered headed unornamented doorway with recessed double three-panel doors and a three-light overlight. The left ground floor window is partially obscured by steps leading up to the earlier chapel.
The side elevation has a channelled basement with five windows, the leftmost of which is blind. Above this is a band under a five-bay arcade of pilasters with plinths, moulded bases, and moulded caps, which support five moulded arches. The eaves cornice is coved. Within the arches are a long arched window on the first floor and a short segmental arched window on the ground floor. Foundation stones dated 27 September 1888 are set between the pilaster plinths. The windows feature timber mullions on the lower level, while the upper ones are cross-windows. The rear has similar open pedimental eaves as the main front, with a similar louvred triplet framed by the letters 'Hill Park Baptist Chapel' in yellow bricks. There is a hipped lean-to organ loft.
The interior has not been inspected but is reported to have galleries on three sides, with some cast-iron inserts.
