Description

Seion Independent Chapel is an Independent Chapel featuring a stucco exterior and a slate roof, built with a round-arched end facade. The tripartite facade includes pilasters and a central major arch that breaks into a pedimental gable. In the center, there is a keyed roundel with a date plaque positioned under the arch, above a triplet of arched windows that have a bracketed sill-course and stucco surrounds. Below this is an arched doorway flanked by pilasters, with a moulded arch and keystone. The double camber-arched doors are topped with a crescent overlight. The side bays contain long arched windows, also with a bracketed sill-course, stucco surrounds, and keystones, featuring a central timber mullion and arched top lights. The side elevation has five windows, and there is a long vestry behind, which is a five-bay unpainted stucco structure with arched windows.

The forecourt is marked by two grey stone piers topped with cross-gabled caps and an iron overthrow.

Inside, the chapel has a fine unaltered interior featuring a three-sided gallery supported by four cast-iron columns. There is a moulded cornice over the columns, and the gallery front is divided by fluted piers, with ornate openwork cast-iron panels above timber panels. A clock is located in the center. The stucco moulded impost cornice arches over the windows, and there is a cornice and flat plaster ceiling with a moulded border and ribs radiating from three roundels. The seating consists of curved pews, and there is a semi-circular set fawr that matches the cast-iron panels. The ornate timber pulpit has a canted front and features fruit and flower carved motifs on the arched panels. Stairs on each side lead up with column banisters and heavy capped newels. An organ from 1900 is set in an elliptical arched recess, which is moulded and panelled, with original painted decoration on the pipes. The vestry and schoolroom have a panelled and boarded seven-bay roof.
