Description

Capel Pentour is a chapel with a stuccoed front elevation, featuring a modillion eaves cornice and a slate gabled roof. The long-wall front elevation includes two arched centre lights that are closely set, with a small roundel window above and between them. On either side, there are two large gallery lights positioned higher, above twin flat-roofed porches that are accessed from the inner sides, all beneath a slated veranda.

The four main windows are adorned with pilasters, moulded arches, and keystones, while the two centre windows share a panelled pier between them. The glazing is of the Florentine type, consisting of two round-arched transomed lights with a stained glass circle above. The small roundel features radiating tracery and a matching moulded arched hood with a keystone. The ground floor has a three-bay slate-roofed veranda supported by iron columns with capitals, situated between the two flat-roofed porches. Each porch contains two small cambered-headed windows on the front and a six-panel doorway in each inner side wall. There are date plaques located within the veranda.

The forecourt is enclosed by a stuccoed wall with coping and ornate iron railings, which have standards topped with ball finials. The gates, located at the right-hand end and in the middle, feature ironwork of a similar design.

The interior has a square plan and dates back to 1889, with enclosed stairs leading up to the galleries from the porches. The woodwork is pitch pine, with pews arranged in the centre block and additional pews located under the three-sided gallery, which is supported by seven iron columns. The gallery front displays panels of herringbone and vertical boarding beneath long pierced cast-iron panels. A clock dated 1866 is present. There is no set fawr. The pulpit platform features balusters on each side of the projecting pulpit front, which has arched-headed panels and attached columns. An organ, installed in the 1960s by G Osmond & Co of Taunton, covers the former rear windows. The ceiling has a plain plaster cornice.
