Description
Hammet Bridge is a road bridge that spans a river, constructed from rubble stone with squared dressings. It features a barrel vault over the river and low flank walls on the north side. The bridge has a pointed full-width passage on the west side, with similar blind recesses on the east side. A full-height buttress is located on the north face, which also includes putlog and drain holes, as well as anchor ties on both faces. The north parapet extends to the west and has vertical coping with flat end stones, while the eastern end features further angled coping. The south parapet has been removed and replaced with a modern Armco barrier and keyclamp handrail.
A cast iron plaque on the north parapet states, "Hammet Bridge was erected and Garnons Mill Road made at the sole expense of Sir Benjamin Hammet Knt. Opened 21 August 1800."
