Description
This is a late 16th-century memorial, situated adjoining No 10 High Street. It comprises a red Aberdeen granite urn set upon a short, round shaft. The shaft has a coved cap and a raised plinth. Decoration is incised and left unpolished. The memorial stands upon a sandstone block with ogee-chamfered upper angles. An inscription reads 'The noble army of martyrs praise thee. On this spot William Nichol of this town was burnt at the stake for the truth April 9th 1558'. The memorial has group value associated with its historical significance.
