Description

Pont Cerwyn Dewi, also known as Merryvale Bridge, is a Grade II* listed medieval structure dating back to around 1835. It is a double road bridge that spans the River Alun and the leat leading to Felin Isaf. The southern section of the bridge features an older structure over the mill-leat, which includes a rough stone arch and a medieval stone tower that is part of the Close Wall, also built over the leat. The tower is constructed of rubble stone and appears to function as a sluice gate, featuring a square shape with a vent loop on each side and a rough stone barrel vault inside.

The northern river bridge has a cut-stone single arch and a rubble ramped parapet. It was likely rebuilt in 1834 or 1835 following floods that had destroyed the earlier bridge.
