Description
The Old Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century, is a one-storey building with an attic, accessed via a cobbled yard. The dormer windows have been recently enlarged, and some original roof structure remains intact. The yard features an old well with a hand pump that is still in use, although the cobbling has been largely restored. An early to mid-19th century house is attached to the east side.
The Grange is a two-storey building with three windows, facing east towards the gardens where there used to be a large carriage-sweep. It is constructed from high-quality local stonework, which is smooth-rendered and painted white. The roof is covered with artificial slates and has a tile ridge, with end-chimneys that have rendered stacks, each containing four flues.
The upper windows are twelve-pane sashes with recessed frames, of which one is a replacement and two are original. The lower sash windows are bay windows from the early or mid-19th century, featuring six panes at the front and four panes on the sides. The front door consists of six panes, with the top and middle panes being fielded and the bottom ones flush. There is a rebuilt porch at the front supported by earlier cast-iron columns.
Inside, there is a new hardwood floor in the entrance hall, six-panel internal doors, and some original ceiling plasterwork. The dogleg staircase has open strings and two square balusters per tread, with a turned newel and a swept handrail.
