Description
Hill Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse located 600 meters southeast of Manorbier Village, accessible via a lane opposite the village hall. This two-storey building with an attic features a range of three windows facing north. It has rendered masonry with renovated slate-hanging on the west elevation and a slate roof with a chimney situated only at the left end. The cornice is made of bricks set diagonally to create simple dentils.
The front windows and the central main door are arranged symmetrically, though the door is slightly offset to the left. The attic does not have windows at the front and has a deep blank space between the eaves and windows, with light coming from a single gable-end window at the left end only.
The windows are 6-pane hornless sashes, retaining much of the original glass, and have stone sills. The front door consists of four panels, with the lower panels being flush. There is a storm porch at the front with glazed double outer doors.
The house has been extended at the rear under a catslide roof. To the left (east) is a two-storey wing, which features a very large chimney at the front, measuring approximately 1.6 meters square at the top. The main oven is located on the west side, overlapping the main part of the house, and has a slated sloping roof. This chimney may be a remnant from an earlier house on the site.
Hill Farmhouse is listed as a large 18th-century farmhouse with an interesting earlier chimney.
