Description
The Cliff Terrace at the Atlantic Hotel is a Grade II listed structure featuring a cliffside walk with balustrades made of rock-faced grey limestone. The openwork balustrade consists of five linked circles topped with rock-faced stone coping, positioned between two piers that have similar caps. The flanking balustrades are lower and include narrow arch-headed openings. On the left side, there is a section with four arches, while the right side has six arches, both with end piers. The left side steps down to a six-arch balustrade, with steps continuing down the cliff, accompanied by plain stone balustrades. On the right, the terrace wall extends around the cliff, featuring a three-arch section at a right angle, followed by plain rubble-stone walling with matching coping that leads to a belvedere terrace, which has a smaller terrace supported by brackets below. Embedded in the wall coping is a marble plaque that reads, "Tenby sundial time reduced to Greenwich Mean Time, Jan 1 add 23 mins, Jan 15 add 29 mins....Equation of Time + 18.8 m from Longitude- Greenwich Mean Time."
