Description
Bryntirion is a house dating to around 1820, constructed of rubble stone with a slate roof and rebuilt red brick end stacks. It has a basement and two main floors. The front facade is a formal three-window arrangement featuring large 12-pane sash windows with slate sills. The central doorway is broad and has a radiating bar fanlight above a four-panel door with fielded-panel side pieces. Timber lintels are above all ground floor openings, suggesting the front may have been previously colourwashed or roughcast. Large panelled shutters are housed within boxes on the ground floor windows, and a basement window is visible to the left of the ground floor.
Two wings extend to the rear; the north wing may be a later addition. A chimney is located on the right gable of the rear wing, and a centre platform is positioned against the former first-floor door, with a door below. A long, pointed stair light with intersecting tracery to a sash window is found on the south side of the south wing.
Inside, a broad entrance hall leads to the front rooms, which feature balancing false doors to maintain symmetry and panelled shutters. The south-east room contains a timber fireplace surround with fluted pilasters. A dog-leg staircase has stick balusters. A four-panel door with a lozenge tracery overlight leads to the rear passage, which may have once been an external doorway.
