Description
Milton Hall is a mid to late 19th century house, built partly on the site of a vaulted undercroft that was said to have been at the corner of Gospel Lane. This site was described in the 1840 Tithe Award as 'part of Nunnery', although there is no evidence of a nunnery in Nun Street, and the remains have not been fully explained. In 1853, the site was referred to as a vault and old buildings, which were under the ownership of Ezekiel Williams. The house served as the Congregational Manse.
The building is constructed of rubble stone and features a grouted slate roof with stone end stacks. It has a two-storey front with three windows, each fitted with 12-pane sash windows, and a central door that has painted brick heads. The entrance includes a four-panel door with a narrow overlight and slate sills. At the rear, there is a shallow stair projection with a 12-pane sash window on each side.
A rubble stone wall extends from the house to the boundary with No 16, showing traces of vaulting at the rear. The front garden is enclosed by a coped dwarf rubble wall topped with slight spearhead iron railings, which includes a matching gate. The interior features a 19th-century staircase and other elements.
