Description

Nos 5-14 The Stores is a row of marine stores built from rubble stone, topped with slate close-eaved roofs. The building consists of four sections, described from right to left.

The first section, against a retaining wall, is a single-storey structure with a lean-to roof. It features broad double doors on the left with a timber lintel, a small blocked window in the center, a door to the center right, and a pair of casement windows on the right.

Next are two two-storey ranges that share a single roofline, with one range slightly angled from the other. The right range has three 20th-century triple casement windows on the first floor, a 20th-century window on the ground floor to the left, double doors in the center, and a door and window to the right. A long concrete lintel spans the center and right openings. The left section has two tilting 12-pane windows, one in the center and one on the right, with the center window framed in brick, above a broad opening with double board doors on the ground floor.

To the extreme left is a low two-storey range that includes a small loft window on the right with brick sides and a low broad door to the right of center, also with a timber lintel. There is another timber lintel in the wall to the right. The left end wall, facing St Julian's Church, features ground floor windows in the center and to the right, with brick heads, including a single casement and a pair of casements. The rear left section has a door leading to the loft from a path, framed in brick.

The rear of the two center ranges has higher eaves on the left section. The right section features a loft door at footpath level on the left, with a concrete lintel and a 6-pane window. The left range has double doors on the left, a door to the right of center, and another door on the right, all with brick jambs and concrete lintels.

The loft roofs are generally made of pine and feature collar-trusses, which appear to date from the 19th century.
