Description
No 3 Olive Buildings, also known as The Blue Dolphin Hotel, is a terraced house dating from the 19th century. It features a painted stuccoed front with three bays and nogged brick eaves. The windows are plate glass sashes that have replaced the original small-paned sashes, which can still be seen on No 2. The sashes increase in size from the top floor to the ground floor, and each window has thin slate sills.
A flight of steps leads up to the central arched doorway, which is set within an open-pedimented doorcase. This doorcase is adorned with thin columns that have reeding just below their capitals, and there are entablature blocks above. The panelled reveals originally matched a six-panel door, but this has been replaced since 1977. The doorway features a blank fanlight with wood tracery. The railings flanking the steps and surrounding the front area have fleur-de-lys finials.
Access to the basement is provided by steps descending from the left side of the building. The ground floor has been altered, and there is a staircase located in the centre at right angles, which is boarded in.
