Description

Paignton House is a stuccoed house dating from the 18th century, originally part of a mirrored pair. It has a slate roof with a chimney on the left side. The house is three storeys high and presents a double-fronted facade. The centre features a pair of doorways, flanked by blank windows above. Raised quoins define the corners, and there’s a plinth and decorative surrounds to the blank central openings. A gabled dormer with a 12-pane sash window sits at the roof. A two-storey canted oriel window, with 2-4-2-pane glazing and side lights, projects from the first and second floors, featuring chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and moulded cornices. The ground floor has a four-pane sash window. The paired doorways are surrounded by plain stucco and a cornice supported by two console brackets; they currently have 20th-century doors with plain overlights, although a two-panel door was present in 1977. The end walls are clad in slate.
