Description
The Tower at Eastington Manor House is a grade I listed tower house built from rubble stone. It features an embattled design with a vaulted ground floor and a first-floor hall that is accessed by additional outside stairs on the west side. There is a narrower rear wing, likely built slightly later, which also has vaulted rooms on each floor and an embattled turret at the northwest corner. This turret leads from the first floor to the wall walk behind the battlements.
The south front of the tower has a corbelled embattled parapet, a later window on the first floor, and a broad opening on the ground floor that was added later. Shallow angle buttresses support the structure. The tower has 20th-century lightweight roofs and some repairs to the stonework, but otherwise remains unrestored. There are signs of a lost southwest gabled building, which may indicate the presence of an earlier hall range.
The original entrance to the tower was on the west side, where a pointed arched doorway can still be seen between the gable and the outside stairs. It is possible that the stairs were originally made of timber and included an upper porch, as indicated by remaining sockets. There is one blocked narrow lancet window on the first floor's left side and a blocked two-light trefoil-headed opening at the north end that is partially obstructed by the rear wing.
