Description

Sandmarsh Cottage is a Regency-era building, likely dating to the early 19th century. It is a two-storey structure with a symmetrical three-window facade. The front is rendered in stucco, with a scribed effect to the first floor and channelled detailing to the ground floor below a prominent band course. The roof is slate, with brick chimney stacks. Wide bracketed eaves sweep outwards over full-height bow windows, which feature fluted timber colonnettes and small-pane sash glazing. A twelve-pane sash window is located centrally above the doorcase, which has a bracketed cornice and fluted columns. The entrance features panelled reveals and a six-panel door. Original lead piping has been retained to the front, and the front rendering extends around the corner, incorporating quoins to the first floor. The rear of the cottage has sash windows and lower eaves.

The interior retains original features, including panelled shutters and arched niches. The entrance hall has a gilded and painted cornice with paterae, and a foliated semi-circular arch leading to a curved open-well staircase, which features wave-moulded tread ends.
