Description
49 Portland Street is a late Georgian building that has undergone Victorian alterations. It is a three-storey structure with an attic and features a two-window facade made of scribed render and stucco. The front includes a cill band, a channelled ground floor, and a dividing pilaster strip. The roof is slate with brick chimney stacks, and there are pitched roof dormers that are slate hung, complete with bargeboards and paired horned sash windows.
To the right of each front, there are three-storey splayed bay windows adorned with cornices and panelled aprons. The left-hand windows feature lugged architraves, with horned sash windows at No 47 and small-pane windows at No 49. Both entrances have Doric porches supported by fluted columns, with No 49 also showcasing an entablature frieze. The doors are half glazed with panelled reveals. The left side and rear of the building are finished in cement render and include sash windows.
