Description
This is a Regency house, built around 1820. The walls are stuccoed, with a plinth and a cornice-like band marking the first floor. A simple entablature sits below the parapet, supported by full-height pilasters that divide the facades. The roof is slate. The main two-storey block is almost square and has formal detailing with simple mouldings.
The symmetrical north front has a recessed centre and a recessed pilaster at the east end, arranged with a 1.1.1 window layout. The ground-floor windows are sashes set within a framework of pilasters, which support the cornice band. The projecting doorway is flanked by coupled square columns, supporting an entablature and balustrade. The doorway itself contains a fanlight above a four-panelled door.
The east elevation is also symmetrical, with a 1.1.1 window arrangement onto steps; the south side has a later projecting bay matching the style. The south elevation has a 2.1.1 window layout, with a slightly projecting 1.1 window section on the east side that is flanked by paired pilasters.
Inside, the classical exterior style gives way to richer detail, with surviving doorcases, doors, ceiling cornices, and a staircase featuring slender cast iron rails. A break in the plain parapet on the west side accommodates drainage from a low-pitched, hipped roof; this side of the building is now detached from the former service wing.
