Description

Havelock House and Wentworth House are a pair of houses built in the early 18th century. The front walls are made of brickwork featuring blue headers with red dressings, and they have cambered rubbed arches, as well as bands at the first and second floors and at the eaves, which includes a low parapet. The rear walls are constructed in English bond with blue headers and also have cambered arches. The houses have a tiled roof with lower gables at the rear.

The symmetrical southeast front elevation consists of three storeys with eight windows on the first and second floors arranged in two groups of four, and four windows on the ground floor. The original sash windows are in exposed frames, while the ground-floor features late 18th-century sashes set in reveals. Both houses have identical wood doorcases, although Wentworth's has been substantially repaired. These doorcases are designed in the Roman Doric Order, featuring an open pediment with a dentilled cornice supported by bold carved brackets, above fluted pilasters. The arched opening includes a radiating fanlight and a six-panelled door, all above stone steps.

The rear of the houses is two storeys with an attic, featuring a window arrangement of 1.3.3.1, along with varied single-storeyed wings. The north side of Wentworth has a single-storeyed wing that includes a plain door and a carriage entrance. There is a low brick boundary wall topped with stone capping, and in front of Havelock, the original wrought iron rails are still in place. Havelock House also displays a lead fire-insurance sign, while Wentworth retains some interior panelling.
