Description
Tabernacle Baptist Chapel is a chapel built from rubble stone with a slate roof, featuring paired brackets at the eaves. The long-wall facade includes two large 18-pane sash windows with flat heads, positioned on either side of a half-length 9-pane window above a central gabled porch. All windows are accented with irregular stone quoins and stone voussoirs, and similar stone quoins are found at the outer angles. The porch, which may have been added later, is rendered and has a slate roof with double doors that have a cambered head and sandstone voussoirs. The east end wall is windowless, while the rear wall is also made of rubble stone and has two 18-pane sash windows. The west end wall is slate hung and features two 18-pane windows.
Inside, the chapel does not have galleries. The pulpit is located between the windows on the west gable wall. There are three blocks of painted grained numbered box pews that are steeply raked to the rear in six steps, with ramped bench ends. The pews have plain panel backs and moulded surrounds on the doors and front panels. Three inward-facing pews are situated on the rear wall opposite the entry, with two open-back benches in front of them. Additionally, there are three inward-facing pews on each side of the set fawr, with the back pew on the entry wall being longer and featuring a high panelled back that acts as a screen for the entrance door. The set fawr includes a late 19th-century seat facing the pulpit, which has turned balusters and newels topped with ball finials. The other two sides of the set fawr are benches on the fronts of the original box pews, with newels added at one end for a cohesive look. The matching pulpit platform has balusters along its serpentine curved sides and short steps on each side. The solid centre pulpit front features an ornate scroll-carved panel beneath the bookrest, supported by carved brackets. The ceiling is plain plaster with three roundels.
