Description

The entrance arch to the Lefel Fawr dates from 1785. It features rubble stone jambs and an ashlar segmental arch, which is decorated with finely cut radiating blocks and a large keystone. The keystone is inscribed with the words: 'This level was commenced AD. 1785' alongside crossed pick-axes. The arch serves as the base of a high rubble retaining wall that supports the road above.
