Description
Trewen Mill, also known as Felin Drewen, is a 19th-century mill constructed from rubble stone with slate roofs. The building has two storeys and a loft, featuring an irregular facade. This includes two 4-pane casement windows at the center and left, positioned above a ground floor window and a door window that are roughly aligned with the upper windows. To the left, there is a 6-pane window, and to the right, a broad doorway with a cambered head supported by an oak lintel, alongside a four-pane casement window. A plaque above the door indicates the date of 1791. The loft has lights in each gable, and there are doors and windows on the first floor at the rear.
The right end of the mill contains the wheelpit for a former overshot wheel, while the left end features a later 19th-century lofted cow-house. This cow-house has two loft windows under the eaves, a ground floor with a brick-headed door, a window, and multiple doors, as well as an added brick lean-to. There is also a door in the end wall that leads to a former kiln-room.
Inside, the mill is equipped with full machinery from the late 19th century. The ground floor has a line-shaft connected to two spur-wheels, which turn shafts for two first floor mill-stones. A shaft-driven bolter is housed in a panelled cupboard, and there are sack-hoists in the loft along with five hoppers. The roof features two oak pegged collar-trusses, while the rest of the structure has early 20th-century pine elements, including pine floor joists.
