Description
The three monuments located at the southwest corner of the churchyard of the Church of St Cynwyl are notable historical markers, with the oldest dating back to 1795.
The first monument commemorates Rev. J. Jones of Pennar, who died in 1795. It is a large structure, standing 3.3 meters high, made from squared Pwntan sandstone. The monument features a framed, arched, and shouldered sandstone plaque that is recessed within a heavy frame, topped with a cornice and a tall concave-sided piece.
The second monument is dedicated to Ann Jones, who passed away in 1826. This monument includes a white marble plaque set within a sandstone frame made of squared blocks, measuring 2 meters high. Atop the plaque is an unusual large cast-iron urn, standing 80 centimeters high, which bears a Latin inscription and the date 1826.
The third monument honors Dr. Walter D. Jones of Lancych, who died in 1869. This is a monolith obelisk that reaches 4 meters in height, crafted from sandstone. It features chamfered and stopped angles, standing on a High Victorian pedestal that includes inscription panels and Gothic angle shafts made from both white and colored marble.
