Description

Gwarcwm Isaf is a small farmhouse dating from the 19th century, featuring two storeys and three bays. It is constructed of rubble stone with a slate gabled roof, a rubble stone chimney on the right, and a red brick chimney on the left. The eaves are close, and the facade is offset to the right. The first-floor windows have wooden lintels at the eaves, while the ground-floor openings have flat arched heads with split stone voussoirs. There is a central door, but all openings have been boarded over since 2003. In a photograph from 1980, the farmhouse was noted to have 19th-century sash windows.

The left-hand return is made of rubble stone and features a wooden-lintelled doorway to the ground floor at the rear. The right-hand return has a ground-floor window opening, which is now blocked, in a stepped-in wall at the rear. Both openings lead into a rear outshut that has a low wall and one rear window.

Although the building was unavailable for inspection, it was recorded in 1980 as having a narrow staircase-hall with wooden partitions accessed through the front door. The parlour contains axial joists and a modern fireplace. The kitchen features a transverse beam with slight chamfers and a run-out stop, along with a deep fireplace that has a badly damaged wooden lintel, a brick oven, and a secondary range. At the back, there is a lean-to dairy and scullery; the dairy has slate slabs and shallow recesses in the back wall, while the scullery contains a small cross-corner fireplace that is now blocked.
