Description
Lan Farmhouse is a small farmhouse, likely dating from the 18th century, built at a right angle to the hillside and facing away from its farmyard. The exterior is constructed of limewashed rubble stone with some sawn slate dressings, and has a slate roof with brick gable end stacks. The front features a near-central doorway with a plank door, flanked by 12-pane sash windows on each floor, and a 4-pane sash window directly above the door. The openings have shallow arched heads constructed from sawn slate voussoirs, and slate sills to the windows. At the rear, the roof extends over an outshut, which has a doorway in its right-hand side and a 6-pane fixed light window to its left; an additional window is obscured by a later farm building. A further 4-pane sash window is located below the eaves. The lower gable end of the outshut has a 9-pane sash window, a 4-pane sash window above, and a further 4-pane sash window to the ground-floor right, illuminating the corner of the main living room.
Inside, the entrance hall contains stairs that rise into the rear outshut. The main living room has a large fireplace with a cast-iron range, and two heavy ceiling beams with rough chamfers, along with what appears to be an inserted beam near the chimney breast. The adjoining parlour has a 20th-century fireplace. The floors are quarry tiles, and the joinery is traditional, including 6-panelled doors. The upper floor contains three rooms over the front range, with the outshut partially open to the staircase.
