Description
The Church of St Cledwyn is a small church built in the 19th century in the Gothic style. It is constructed of rubble stone and features a slate roof. The church includes a nave with a gabled bellcote and a south porch, as well as a lower and narrower chancel with a south vestry. The openings in the church have hood moulds with foliage stops. The nave has two cusped lights in its south wall, with the porch to the left, which has an ashlar gable. The entrance to the porch is pointed and has a single continuous chamfer. The vestry, which has an outshut roof, includes a cusped south window.
The chancel features a two-light Decorated east window. On the north side of the nave, there are two windows similar to those on the south side and a two-light geometrical west window, beneath which part of a medieval incised slab is set into the wall.
The nave is aisless and has a 19th-century arch-braced roof, along with a simple Gothic chancel arch. The font, which may date from the 12th century, has a square bowl with cable moulding on a round stem with a modern base. The pews and choir stalls were installed in 1882, while the pulpit is from the 20th century. On the north wall, there are two oval monuments from around 1790 dedicated to the Lewis and Protheroe families. The east window features stained glass depicting Faith and Hope, made in 1883 by Clayton & Bell, while the west window shows Saints David and George, created around 1901.
