Description

Court Calmore Farmhouse is a large, detached farmhouse dating from the 19th century. It features painted stucco walls, a slate flat-eaved roof, and two red brick ridge stacks. The building has a stucco plinth and quoins, stands two storeys tall, and consists of four bays. The two central bays are closer together than the outer ones.

The windows are cast-iron small-paned casements, with the ground floor windows being longer and featuring larger panes with transoms, while the upper windows have tiny panes, and all four sills are at slightly different levels. The left two bays include cross-windows on the ground floor, a pair of casements on the first floor to the left, and a slightly longer small cross-window above to the right. The third bay has a smaller pair of casements above a doorway, which is framed by a painted timber doorcase from the early 19th century, featuring thin panelled pilasters, a fascia, and a flat moulded hood on brackets. The six-panel door from the 19th century has a four-pane overlight. The fourth bay contains a large triple casement below and a pair of casements above, set considerably higher than the other upper windows.

On the right end wall, there is a small lean-to addition with chamfered corners and a canted hipped roof. The left gable features a 12-pane horned sash window with a brick sill on the ground floor and a renewed pair of casements on the first floor. The rear of the farmhouse has gables at each end, with altered windows made of uPVC. A one-storey wing projects from the left gable, which has a cross-window facing the yard and a lean-to porch.

The interior has not been inspected, but in 1983, there was an old ledged door in the service end of the house. Other features included four-panel and six-panel doors, an earlier 19th-century staircase with square balusters, and a large stopped and chamfered axial ceiling beam on the ground floor, with similar beams reported on the first floor.
