Description

The Zion Baptist Chapel and attached chapel house date from the early 19th century, with subsequent alterations. The chapel was initially erected in 1827, rebuilt in 1857, and enlarged in 1860. It is constructed of colour-washed stucco with a slate roof. The simple, small-scale design features two large arched windows along the long wall, a door, and a single window to the right-hand end wall. A small, two-storey chapel house is set back to the left. The windows are small-paned, 16-pane sashes, with radiating bars to the heads and slate sills. A plaque above the entrance reads: "Zion Baptist Chapel erected AD 1827 Rebuilt AD 1857 Enlarged AD 1860. He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved." The door on the left-hand end wall has a slated pedimental hood supported by console brackets, with added timber posts and side panels. A 16-pane sash window is located to the right. The rear wall is of rubble stone and windowless. The chapel house to the left was refronted in the late 19th century using yellow brick, creating a two-storey, double-fronted facade with 20th-century casement windows and a central door. The end wall of the chapel house is of rubble stone with a yellow brick stack.

Inside the chapel, the pulpit is positioned on the front wall between the windows, and the space is fitted with painted, grained box pews raked up to the rear in six steps, arranged in three blocks. A harmonium stands in front of the central block pew. Matching pews and a 'set fawr' (a traditional Welsh communion table) flank the pulpit on either side. The small pulpit has a two-panel front and short steps from the left, with an arched hoodmould on the wall behind. The ceiling is plain.
