Premises and building occupied by Spar Grocers

This building, which houses Spar Grocers, is a three-storey house and shop constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, topped with a slate roof and featuring nogged brick eaves. A red brick chimney is located on the roof slope between the first and second bays. The façade consists of three bays, with the left bay being wider. The windows have brick flat heads, with 6-pane square sashes on the top floor and 12-pane sashes on the first floor, both featuring stone sills.

On the ground floor, there is a house door to the left of an elegant early 19th-century shop front, which includes a shop window flanked by two doors. All three doors are adorned with fine overlight tracery that showcases an octagonal wheel motif at the center. The house door to the left has a modern 6-panel fixed door, while the shopfront doors on the middle and right have modern 6-panel outer doors, with the right door being a dummy. The shop window is broad and rectangular, containing 50 panes, and is set within a common framework of panelled thin pilasters, fascia, and cornice, which is broken forward over the four pilasters.

The right end wall is made of rubble stone and features one inserted window in a blue brick surround. The rear wall is painted white and has two modern windows on the top floor. There is a brick rear northeast wing that is two storeys tall, with a lower brick end range that has rebuilt gables on the north side and west end.

In front of the building, there are stone setts. The ground floor has been altered for use as a shop, with two iron columns positioned behind the shop window and a heavy north-south beam in the rear room.
