Description
1 Arthur Street is a terraced house built from red brick in Flemish bond, featuring a low pitched slate roof and dentilled brick eaves. The house has a small ridge chimney at the original left end and a larger chimney at the left end. The front elevation shows a straight joint between the two-bay, two-storey main section and the three-storey, single-bay left end.
The main part includes large cambered-headed 12-pane sash windows, with two on the upper floor and one on the ground floor to the right, raised high above a cambered-headed basement opening that has ledged doors. On the ground floor to the left, there are brick and stone outside stairs with five steps and an iron railing, leading up to a platform in front of a 6-panel door that has a lattice patterned overlight, set in plain panelled reveals with a thin moulded frame. To the left of the steps, there is a plain ledged door leading to a through passage.
The added left bay features a flat-headed 9-pane sash window on the top floor, a cambered-headed 12-pane sash window on the middle floor, and a small cambered-headed 12-pane sash window on the ground floor to the left, next to a wide flat-headed vehicular entry with ledged doors and a timber lintel.
At the rear, there is an added lean-to against the main part. The northern section has a left bay with dentilled eaves, a 6-pane attic sash window, and a 12-pane sash window on the first floor. There is a narrow projection to the right with a small window at the top left.
The front of the house is paved with stone setts. The interior has not been inspected.
