Description

The building is a former malthouse with attached stables, dating from the 18th century. It features a long, three-storey range that steps down to two storeys at the north end. The structure is built of rubble stone, with brick window heads and dentilated eaves. The roof has been renewed with corrugated iron sheets.

The main east elevation consists of four bays, with doorways at either end and three windows between them on each floor. There is a further narrow bay to the left. The upper floor windows are boarded, while the other windows are either small pane timber framed or infilled. The south gable elevation faces the road and includes one high loading door. The north elevation has three windows; the ground and second-floor windows are boarded, while the first floor features small pane windows except for the central window, which is blocked. The right-hand two-storey section has two bays and a large double door opening at ground floor with a window above. There is a small stable and cart house to the right, with two stable doors to the right and a wide cart house to the left. Two square windows are located under the eaves.

The building is divided into two floors, though it may have originally had three. The ground floor has been converted with concrete stalls and flooring but retains the original timber staircase at the south end. The first floor remains intact with the original floor structure and boards throughout, bolted king post trusses, and a roof structure hoist at the south end, along with a large grain hopper projecting through the floor.

A full-height masonry wall separates the main range from the lower two-storey section. This wall features two wide doorways at ground floor, three openings to the first floor, and two taller openings above. The openings may suggest an earlier gable wall, although there is no external evidence for this, and the roof structures of both sections are similar.
