Description
The Friends' Meeting House is a single cell building constructed of colourwashed brick in irregular bond, topped with a slate roof. Internally, it is divided into an entrance lobby at the west end, which has a loft above, and a meeting room. The attached house once featured a wooden partition that could be opened to allow the occupants to participate in the meetings.
The entrance has a 19th-century boarded door with a two-light transomed window above it. The meeting room features a larger external boarded door on the south side, which is set within a heavy frame and has external rails, all framed by a half-brick segmental arch. There are two 19th-century two-light transomed windows that replaced the original windows installed in 1747; these earlier openings were originally unglazed. All the symmetrical openings in the meeting room have a simple brick drip course that ends on brick headers.
The lobby includes a staircase leading to the upper floor and a door leading to the meeting room. The meeting room has a small gallery at the east end and a window in the east gable, which is now blocked. The gallery used to be accessed from an external stair on the north side, but only the opening remains. Furnishings from the meeting house were removed to Pennsylvania and other locations.
