Description

Upper Cwmhir is a 1½ storey, 3-window cottage built of rubble stone with brick dressings, featuring a slate roof and a replaced brick stack to the left of the center. The openings have brick surrounds with segmental heads in the lower storey. Most windows are iron-frame casements with small-pane Gothic glazing, typical of the Abbey Cwmhir estate. The entrance, located to the left of center, has a boarded door. The lower storey windows are mainly 2-light casements, all iron-framed except for one replacement wooden casement window to the right of center. There are also attic windows, which are wooden casements, to the right of center and at the left end. The left gable end features a 2-light attic window. The right gable end is made of brick and is partly obscured by a later lean-to constructed of corrugated iron and weatherboarding, which has a slate-hung gable and a 2-light attic window. The rear of the cottage has rubble stone on the right side and brick in the center and left, built in two phases separated by a vertical joint. There is a 2-light window to the right, a single-light window to the left, and a stair light beneath the eaves in the center. The building has not been inspected.
