Description
Abercannon is a farmhouse likely dating from the 18th century, situated on low-lying land near where the small Afon Cannon meets the Afon Glam, approximately 1.2 kilometers west-southwest of Llanerfyl village. The farm is enclosed by walls made of dry-laid river pebbles.
The exterior features colour washed stone and a slate-covered roof. The building follows a derived longhouse plan with the entrance located opposite the stack. It has two storeys and includes a living room, an inner unheated parlour, a kitchen, and a wash-house, all under a continuation of the roof at the rear. Beyond the gable stack, there is a two-bay cowhouse. A later hipped lean-to is attached to the parlour end. The door, dating from around 1930, has a glazed panel and is set in an open stone-built porch with a timber-framed gable. The windows are 19th century, featuring four- and six-pane sash designs with segmental arched heads, although the upper windows have been renewed in earlier openings. The stack has been rebuilt in brick, and there are two boarded doors leading to the farm building.
The interior was not accessible during the inspection in October 1995. Abercannon is listed as a well-preserved farmhouse that is typical of the upland area.
