Description
The former railway station is designed in a simple Renaissance style and features a shallow U-plan with symmetrical two-storey front and rear elevations made of red brick. The façade has a 2 + 4 + 2 window arrangement with freestone dressings, including quoins and a plinth. The hipped slate roof has modillion bracket eaves and rendered chimney stacks. There are two-window end pavilions, each with a one-window return on the inner sides. The windows are small pane sash types, with 8-pane round arched windows on the first floor featuring keystones, and 12-pane square headed windows below with cornices. The central entrance has a pediment and consists of panelled double doors with a plain overlight, and there are similar doorways on the return walls of the outer pavilions.
The left end has a two-window arrangement, while the right end has three windows, which is rendered. There are gabled single-storey extensions with narrow sashes and a panelled door on the left end. The former platform elevation has nine bays, with similar window and door treatments and a continuous cornice. The central bay features a tripartite window with three arched heads, and below it is a three-light bow window with a cornice parapet. Doorways are located in alternate bays.
Internally, the building has undergone significant alterations, but the left-hand staircase with turned balusters and square newels has been retained, along with panelled doors. The building also includes accommodation for the stationmaster.
