Description

Oakview, which includes Bethany Books, likely has its origins in the mid-18th century and underwent refronting in the mid to late 18th century. It is a two-storey building with an attic and features a three-window rendered front with a plinth. The slate roof has wide bracket eaves and red brick chimney stacks, with the one on the right being part cement rendered. The building has gabled dormers with cills positioned below the eaves level, and it contains horned sash windows, except for a modern window located on the ground floor to the right, which is above a cambered basement opening. The front also includes a plain Victorian shop front and a splayed central entrance with double half-glazed doors.

The gable end facing Cambrian Place features one sash attic window and a Georgian open pedimented doorcase with fluted brackets, panelled reveals, and a six-panel door. The rear is constructed of whitewashed brick and has a tall round arched headed stairwell window with small pane glazing. A two-storey half-timbered cross range extends to the modern Minerva garage. A brick wall, set forward to the street, encloses a small rear yard that is accessed through a boarded door.

Inside, the building retains original Georgian detailing, including a broad dog leg staircase with a swept-up handrail and a turned newel. The kitchen has boxed in beams and is said to have been formerly a cowshed.
