Description

Upper Tyn y Cefn is a 2-storey house with a farm range, situated on a sloping site. The house features rubble-stone walls that are rendered at the front, a slate roof, and a brick chimney stack. The main entrance, located centrally, is accessed via stone steps and has a half-glazed panel door. To the right of the entrance is an iron-framed casement window, with a further wood-framed casement window to the right. The upper storey has three small iron-framed casement windows beneath the eaves. To the left of the entrance, where the ground level drops steeply, there is a cellar doorway and another boarded door further left. The farm range is timber-framed, covered with weatherboards and a corrugated iron front. The downhill gable end features weatherboards above a stone plinth with three triangular breathers, while the uphill gable end is also weatherboarded.

At the rear, which has three windows, there are 20th-century wooden casements beneath the eaves in the upper storey and a replaced boarded door on the left side. Above the right-hand upper-storey window, the wall is weatherboarded where the roof has been raised. The farm range is positioned forward.

Inside, the entrance leads to a lobby created by an inserted chimney. To the right is a living room that includes a large fireplace with a cambered beam, visible spine beams, and part of a cruck truss. Beyond this room, the kitchen features a cross beam with broach stops, a 19th-century staircase, and a framed partition. To the left of the entrance, at a lower level, is the parlour, which has a 19th-century fireplace against the main chimney and wooden stairs leading to the upper floor. The cruck trusses are noted to have lapped tie-beams and collars, with a butted apex.
