Description
Nos 1 and 2 Castle Madoc Cottages, now functioning as a single house, are a pair of cottages that feature whitewashed roughcast walls and a slate eaves roof with whitewashed roughcast end stacks. The building is two storeys tall with an attic and consists of three bays. To the left, there is a large gabled dormer that includes a triple casement window. The windows throughout the structure are cambered-headed and have narrow triple casements. The entrances consist of paired boarded doors, with the left door positioned beneath the centre window and sheltered by a single sloping-roofed porch supported by three chamfered timber posts. Each door has overlights above it, with the former No 1 located to the right and No 2 to the left.
Attached to the left end of the cottages is a rubble stone lean-to that connects to a square dovecote. The dovecote is two storeys high and features a stone-tiled pyramid roof topped with a louvred lantern and a vane. The whitewashed front of the dovecote includes a door with a timber lintel and a pair of casement windows on the first floor, which also have timber lintels and a stone sill. There are no windows on the other sides, and a 20th-century door has been inserted at the rear.
The interior of the dovecote has been largely restored in the 20th century, including new floor and roof timbers.
