Description
The Grotto at Maesfron is a notable structure featuring a quartzite facade wall that spans a narrow opening supported by a half brick arch. The entrance is framed by rebated stone jambs that hold a cut stone ogee arch.
Inside, the grotto has a circular shape with a decorative pebble floor. The walls are faced with quartzite and calcite, leading up to a saucer dome adorned with shells such as cockle, mussel, and oyster, along with pieces of glazed pottery. The walls also feature shallow decorative elements, including recessed triangle and Maltese cross patterns.
