Description
Llwyn Melyn Farmhouse is a one and a half storey building that dates from the 18th to 19th century. It features three bays with an additional one bay rear extension. The structure is primarily built of brick, with the center bay constructed of random stonework, encasing what was originally a timber framed building. The roof is covered with slate. The entrance has a boarded door, and there are 20th century timber casement windows. The upper floor includes three dormers.
The house consists of four bays, with a central two-bay hall. This hall has a post and panel upper end partition that was originally open to the roof, supported by cruck trusses. The center truss features an arched braced collar and cusped raking struts that hold a single tier of purlins. There are mortices for deep windbraces. The eastern hall truss is framed and closed. A late 16th to early 17th century stack has been inserted, featuring a fire lintel that is intricately carved with double-ended dragons facing a central triskelion, with a man and woman depicted lying face to face, the man in an open-fronted shirt. The woman has been removed, and at the opposite end of the lintel is the letter W, along with cryptic symbols and a date that appears to be 162(?).
