Description

Llwynfilly is a house, likely dating back to the 16th century, with later additions and alterations. It is two storeys high, with a cellar and attics. The exterior is pebbledashed stone, topped with a hipped slate roof. The west-facing elevation is approximately symmetrical, featuring rubble end chimneys with later brick caps, sash windows with 19th-century woodwork, a renewed 20th-century front door and surround, and a 20th-century hood with posts and scrolled bargeboards. Two roof-lights are present. The south-facing elevation has 2-light 19th-century casement and sash windows. The rear building has a lower-pitched roof with a chimney at each end, and a farm building is attached to the east.

Possibly original oak doorcases are present on both the main floors, though the doors themselves are 19th-century four-panelled. The south front room was originally built as a kitchen, featuring a deep, timber-lintelled hearth. A rear door from the 18th century is retained, with oak planks and ogee-moulded battens. The room has plain ceiling beams. The north room has a stone floor that continues into the entrance hall, a late 19th-century painted black marble chimney piece, and a mid-to-late 19th-century door and frame. The staircase rises to the attics, with a simpler handrail above. It has turned oak balusters shaped like columns and beaded square newels. The cellar incorporates several stop-chamfered 16th-century ceiling joists with run-out stops. The attics have been refitted, but the roof retains three collared trusses and two cruck-like end trusses. The rear building has been significantly adapted and altered over time.
