Description

The Methodist Church and Hall is a Grade II listed building featuring a simple Gothic design, dating from the 19th century. It has a gable end with an advanced central bay, constructed from coursed rubble with freestone dressings. The slate roof is set behind gable parapets that include moulded kneelers and bracket eaves.

The gable features a trefoil-headed lancet above the central section, which is flanked by buttresses with set-offs and a ball-flower cornice. Above the cusped central doorway, there is a Y-traceried window with hood moulds, and the doorway itself has a boarded door with strapwork hinges. The side elevations contain plain lancets, while the central window heads display lozenge-pattern glazing with stained glass.

The lower gable end, which is dated 1888, mirrors the style of the church hall on the right, and there is a Sunday School attached to the east end, which has a blocked window in the gable above.

The property is enclosed by stone forecourt walls that feature pinnacled gatepiers, along with ironwork railings and a gate that has a quatrefoil motif.
