Free Church, Migdale

The Free Church in Migdale was built in 1881 and features a simple Gothic design. The building has a coursed rubble frontage, with harl pointed rubble flanks and tooled ashlar dressings. The south gable showcases a recessed Gothic doorway in the advanced center bay, which includes nook shafts and a continuous hoodmould that connects to small flanking lancets. Above this, there is a string course, with triple lancets set beneath a pointed relieving arch. The apex bellcote is adorned with decorative oculi, and the building has long outer lancets along with angle buttresses topped with terminal pinnacles.

The six-bay flanks are illuminated by narrow pointed-headed windows, while the north gable has two similar but shorter windows, along with angle buttresses and a small finial. The windows feature simple leaded glazing, and the roof is made of slate.

Inside, the church has a gallery on three sides, which is decorated with Gothic cusped blind arcading at the front. The pulpit is panelled and includes a five-sided sounding board, with panelled sections at the rear and front. Below the pulpit is a clerk's desk, with flanking stairs that have handrails.

The property is also marked by tooled ashlar gate piers topped with ball finials, along with cast iron gates and spearhead cast-iron railings on a coped rubble retaining wall.
