Description
Fachwen is a two-storey lobby entry house with an attic, consisting of three units. It features a front porch and a rear catslide extension. The building is timber-framed and has a slate roof with a central red brick chimney stack. The northern gable end is jettied and dates back to the original phase of the house. The box framing includes arches and tension braces on the sides, with diagonal struts in panels formed by king and queen posts and a collar in the gable. There have been alterations to the framing below the mid rail, including timber cladding. The second storey has a four-pane wooden window. The southern gable displays irregular framing with some diagonal struts, and it has a modern casement window in the attic storey along with two windows on the second storey. The front elevation and porch have been rendered. The upper storey windows are wooden casements, although the northern window has been blocked. The rear catslide extension is made of brick and masonry, featuring a modern planked door in the centre flanked by two small casement windows. At the southern end of the catslide section, there is a small red brick chimney stack. The building was not accessible at the time of inspection in August 1996.
