Description
Pontybat is a house featuring whitewashed render that mimics ashlar, topped with a slate close-eaved roof and three roughcast chimneys—one at each end and one on the ridge to the left of center. The right end stack has a prominent external chimney breast with two diagonally set late 17th century shafts. The building is two storeys high with an attic, consisting of a main three-bay house with two gables on the right and a service range with one gable on the left, all under a single roof.
The front windows, except for those in the gables, are imitation sashes made of uPVC. The main section has two 9-pane attic sash windows in the gables, three uPVC 16-pane sashes on the first floor, and two on the ground floor, flanking a central half-glazed door. The service range gable is positioned well to the left of the other gables, featuring a 9-pane attic window, a pair of imitation 12-pane sashes on the first floor (which replaced 19th century 4-pane sashes), and a ground floor 20th century glazed door (which replaced a 19th century 6-pane sash). There is also a triple casement window to the left (which replaced a door) and an imitation 16-pane window to the right.
At the rear, there is a two-storey northeast stable wing with a granary above the stable and a cider room. The interior was not inspected, but a plan from 1964 indicated that the main range was divided into five bays by beams, with large chimneys at each end. The interior layout included a parlour to the east, a stair hall in the center, and a hall to the right. The kitchen was located in the added service range on the west end, with a dairy at the rear.
