Description
Claerwen Dam is a masonry-faced concrete dam, approximately 56 meters high, that supports a viaduct on 13 elliptical arches, featuring stone parapets. The central arch of the viaduct is broader and carries a viewing platform with a balustrade. The end piers of the platform extend down to the full height of the dam, framing a stepped spillway. At the base of the dam, there are two buttresses with doorways that are connected by diagonally set bridges over the pool at the foot of the dam. At both ends of the dam, there are stepped spillways with parapet walls that broaden as they descend. The walls turn to frame a channel in front of the foot of the dam, which is spanned by a stone bridge with two segmental arches and iron railings.
