Description

Symmetrical pair of houses in Georgian architectural style. Prospect House, left, Lion Hotel, right.

3 storeys and cellar. Cement-rendered brick and uncoursed limestone rubble with plinth and imitation angle quoins; low pitched hipped slate roof with deep eaves, red brick ridge stack to centre and integral end stack to left and 2 to right. Catslide roof over rear service range. Iron rainwater goods.

6 bays with wider gap to centre; glazing bar sashes with margin lights to sides and top, reduced proportions to top floor. Surviving windows are 12-pane on ground and first floors, 9-pane on second floor. 4 boarded-up windows in south-facing gable, rear windows are late C20.

Each house has central entrance, Prospect House with C20 diagonally boarded door and C19 rectangular barred overlight in Doric-columned stone doorcase with plain moulded entablature. Lion Hotel has recessed six-panel door (upper panels now glazed) with rectangular overlight under stone Doric porch with plain moulded entablature.

Stone mounting block attached to right return. C19 2-storey range in unrendered brick to rear, including former stables and cart/coach-house.
