Description

The Lion Hotel and Prospect House are a symmetrical pair of Georgian-style houses. Prospect House is on the left, and the Lion Hotel is on the right.

Both buildings are three storeys tall and have a cellar. They are constructed from cement-rendered brick and uncoursed limestone rubble, featuring a plinth and imitation angle quoins. The low-pitched hipped slate roof has deep eaves, with a red brick ridge stack at the center, an integral end stack on the left, and two stacks on the right. There is a catslide roof over the rear service range, and iron rainwater goods are present.

The façade consists of six bays with a wider gap in the center. The windows are glazing bar sashes with margin lights on the sides and top, with reduced proportions on the top floor. The surviving windows are 12-pane on the ground and first floors and 9-pane on the second floor. There are four boarded-up windows in the south-facing gable, while the rear windows are from the late 20th century.

Each house has a central entrance. Prospect House features a 20th-century diagonally boarded door and a 19th-century rectangular barred overlight within a stone doorcase supported by Doric columns, topped with a plain moulded entablature. The Lion Hotel has a recessed six-panel door (with the upper panels now glazed) and a rectangular overlight beneath a stone Doric porch with a plain moulded entablature.

A stone mounting block is attached to the right return. At the rear, there is a 19th-century two-storey range made of unrendered brick, which includes former stables and a cart or coach house. The buildings have not been inspected.
