Description

The spillway is an engineering structure made of engineering brick walls topped with heavy gritstone coping. At the upper end, there is a ground paddle and radial arm gear made by the Coalbrookdale Company, which is surrounded on three sides by heavy stone blocks. This paddle gear was likely designed by George Buck during engineering improvements that took place between 1819 and 1831. The iron-shod timber gates were removed at the time of inspection in August 1994. The main pound walls also narrow and are constructed of blue brick.

On the north side, there is a feeder stream featuring a tapered spillway that includes a central flume controlled by a ratchet paddle gear. Additionally, there is a 60-meter spun concrete culvert from the 20th century leading to a blue brick interceptor bay located beside the tapering walls of the main pound.
