Description

The Hope Chapel, attached house, and vestry date from the 19th century and are constructed of rubble stone with slate eaves roofs. The house is slightly lower than the chapel, and the single-story vestry or schoolroom is lower still, positioned to the right.

The chapel has a lateral front with two large arched windows featuring cut stone voussoirs, stone sills, and vertical glazing bars intersecting in the heads. These windows likely date to the later 19th century and contain diamond-leaded panes. A plaque between the windows reads 'Hope Chapel Erected 1861'. To the left is a door set within a later 19th-century painted timber gabled porch. At the rear centre is a cambered-headed three-light window, also with stone voussoirs and square leaded panes.

The vestry, added to the right, has two large square windows and a door, with 20th-century window heads and glazing.

The attached house to the left has a lower roof pitch. At the left end is a rock-faced stone stack. The front elevation is a two-window range with three small 12-pane sash windows and a door. Stone voussoirs are visible on the ground floor windows. There is one window on the end wall and one to the ground floor rear.

Inside the chapel, the interior is simple, lacking a gallery. The three-bay roof features plain wishbone trusses and boarding. Pine pews are arranged in two blocks of five rows, with simple shaped bench ends. The pews face the end wall pulpit, with some inward-facing pews to the side. The pew backs are panelled, and there is a boarded dado. A small platform has a front balustrade, and a centre bookrest is supported by a pillar with a moulded base and a three-sided front embellished with quatrefoils. A bench against the wall has a panelled back and an added top board with a triple-curve outline.
